Kim Schrier, Democrat running for US Congress in the 8th Congressional

Republican Dino Rossi is losing badly on election night in his bid for US Congressman.

District, which includes Sammamish, jumped to a commanding lead over Republican Dino Rossi.

Schrier received 55% of the election night vote over Rossi, who lives in Sammamish. As expected, Schrier’s base lies in Democratic King County. The 8th includes portions of Pierce County and all of Kittitas and Chelan counties.

A loss by Rossi would be his fourth in a row. He lost twice for governor and once for US Senator.

Democrats appear to be sweeping State Senate and State Representative seats in the 5th, 41st and 45th Legislative districts.

The 5th includes the greater Klahanie area. The 41st is roughly the southern half of Sammamish and the 45th the norther half, roughly along a line of SE 8th St.

Historically, election night results vary only a point or two from the final results, which won’t be tallied until after Thanksgiving.

Valderrama’s hypocrisy over Hornish issue

Sammamish City Council member Ramiro Valderrama displayed hypocrisy last Tuesday in his aggressive attempt to force fellow member Tom Hornish to remain on committees following acceptance of a new job in the private sector.

Two years ago, Valderrama sought a new job in the public sector that would have had direct conflict of interest with his city council position. It would have meant choosing between his new job and the council when it came to attending meetings and committee meetings. It likely meant Valderrama would have missed the council’s annual retreat at which goals and committee assignments are made for the coming year.

Yet Valderrama vowed to retain his council position if he got the new job and brushed aside all objections from his constituents.

When Hornish stepped up and recognized time constraints were coming, resigned his position as deputy mayor and stepped off all but one committee, Valderrama—oblivious o his own actions two years earlier—objected and engaged in a transparent attempt to set Hornish up to fail and ultimately force him off the council.

Legislators show utter contempt for Sammamish constituents

State Rep. Paul Graves was the only Samammish legislator to vote against SB6617, which exempts legislators from the Public Records Act.

Sammamish’s representatives, except for one, displayed utter and complete contempt for their constituents last week.

State Rep. Paul Grave (R-5th), who represents the greater Klahanie area of Sammamish, was the only one of nine legislators to vote against the measure exempting legislators from the laws of the Public Records Act requiring governments to turn over documents when citizens request them. Lambert wins only 52% of vote in Sammamish; Dhingra wins easily

King County Council District 3

King County Council Member Kathy Lambert was reelected to a fourth, four-year term on Nov. 7, snaring 57.21% of the vote across District 3, which stretches from Bellevue to Snoqualmie pass and from North Bend on the south to the Snohomish County line.

But in Sammamish, Lambert captured only 52.49% of the vote against John Murphy, a Democrat, from North Bend. Lambert is a Republican. The race is non-partisan, but parties lined up behind both candidates.

Lambert trailed all Sammamish City Council candidates and the winner in the Sammamish portion of the 45th Legislative District.

Lambert was unopposed four years ago.

Sammamish November precinct voting analysis

The certified vote by precinct was released by King County Elections last week. Sammamish has 61 precincts and the November election was the first including the greater Klahanie area as part of Sammamish’s City Council elections.

Beginning tomorrow through Friday, Sammamish Comment published a race-by-race analysis of the precinct vote for City Council Positions 1, 3, 5 and 7; and King County Council District 3 with the 45th Legislative District State Senate race.
