Kim Schrier, Democrat running for US Congress in the 8th Congressional
Republican Dino Rossi is losing badly on election night in his bid for US Congressman.
District, which includes Sammamish, jumped to a commanding lead over Republican Dino Rossi.
Schrier received 55% of the election night vote over Rossi, who lives in Sammamish. As expected, Schrier’s base lies in Democratic King County. The 8th includes portions of Pierce County and all of Kittitas and Chelan counties.
A loss by Rossi would be his fourth in a row. He lost twice for governor and once for US Senator.
Democrats appear to be sweeping State Senate and State Representative seats in the 5th, 41st and 45th Legislative districts.
The 5th includes the greater Klahanie area. The 41st is roughly the southern half of Sammamish and the 45th the norther half, roughly along a line of SE 8th St.
Election night results are below the jump.
Historically, election night results vary only a point or two from the final results, which won’t be tallied until after Thanksgiving.

GOP is effectively wiped out of King county. WA has become a one party state. All that matters is you have a (D) after your name. As the Seattle Times pointed out, if you live anywhere within 30 miles of a Whole Foods, you know you’re getting a (D).
The problem is two fold. First, Republicans in this state must demand an audit of voter registration. I believe a large number of non-citizens have been registered to vote by the DMV because they do not have access to the citizenship database, and they never ask if anyone is a citizen when they register them to vote. A GOP state representative Kim Wyman tried to do this after the 2016 election, but for some reason did not pursue it. This should be done at a national level but even in WA state, we need to do this.
Second, the GOP needs a stronger message. Dino Rossi is afraid to align himself with Trump, as are all the GOP candidates here. But he doesn’t have to. All he has to do is come out strong against immigration. You may think on the surface that this area has so many immigrants they must all be pro mass immigration, but first of all, most of them cannot vote, at least legally, and second, many of those who can vote are against illegal immigration and favor a more restrictive legal immigration policy. There are many (at least East) Asians who are very conservative voters who want less immigration, both legal and illegal, the GOP is failing miserably in reaching out to us. Bellevue has been heavily East Asian for a long time, and it was heavily Republican for a long time.
The GOP has no message other than tax, tax, tax. That is not what is on most voters’ minds. The next GOP candidate who has the courage to come out in favor of a more restrictive immigration policy that prevents further environmental degradation to Western Washington will have a fighting chance. Democrats are incredibly disingenuous when they simultaneously preach for environmental protection and more immigration. The two do not reconcile.
Admittedly Dino Rossi is not the right candidate to campaign on this issue as he is a developer himself. I have nothing against immigrants, many of whom are wonderful people, but this area simply cannot handle any more people without heavy environmental degradation. Western Washington is losing its allure as one of the most beautiful places to live in America. We are losing all our beautiful trees at a rapid rate to make room for more houses and more people, more cars without more roads.
I’m thankful that Amazon is building a second HQ out of this region as they can see how poorly growth is being managed in Western WA. I wish Microsoft would do the same and build a second HQ somewhere else like Minneapolis or Boston, give us some breathing room from this unrelenting degradation to our environment from rampant over development.
