Indapure jumps to early, big lead in fund raising

Sammamish City Council Position 6 candidate Rituja Indapure jump to an early and big lead in fund raising, according to reports filed through Wednesday with the Washington Public Disclosure Commission.

Indapure raised nearly $18,300 from 87 contributions. Fifty-six percent of the contributors come from within Sammamish.

Karen McKnight, candidate for Position 2 opposing incumbent Christie Malchow, is a distance second fund raiser, with $3,641 listed in her PDC filing.

Malchow is fourth at $1,910. Kent Treen, running for Position 4, is third, with $2,100 in contributions.

The others haven’t reported raising any money yet.

Critical vote on development tonight, with the Town Center looming above

  • New concurrency rules block new development due to inadequate infrastructure
  • The new rules were temporary and will effectively expire tonight unless council acts
  • Phase I of the Town Center, 424 homes, is currently blocked
  • Council votes on whether to keep the new rules or not

The Sammamish City Council will hold a public hearing tonight (6:30 at City Hall) with an expected vote later that night to make the concurrency rules enacted in November 2018 permanent.

Three weeks to city council candidate filing date

It’s three weeks to the first filing date May 12 for the August primary for local elections. So far, there are only two declared candidates for three Sammamish City Council seats up for election this year.

Only one of the three incumbents announced election plans; two others haven’t decided if they will seek reelection.

Ritchie accuses the council majority of denying a debate on plastic bags ban; Malchow denies

The dysfunction of Sammamish City Council reached new levels over a proclamation in support of Senate Bill 5323 that calls for a state-wide plastic bag ban and a 5 cents tax for paper bags.

Mayor Malchow

It was with regret we learned of the decision by Mayor Christie Malchow to pass on seeking reelection to a second term as Sammamish city council member.

Malchow accomplished more in one term than many council members have in multiple terms.

She didn’t hesitate to take on highly controversial issues. Once she did, her tenacity in solving the issue was awe inspiring.
