Ballots for the Nov. 8 election will be mailed Oct. 19 by King County Elections.
Like most states, Washington has early voting, this in the form of mail-in voting.
Because of ballots mailed overseas to expats and military personnel, the state counts ballots for two weeks after Election Day as long as the mailings are postmarked no later than this day.
King County Elections today (Aug. 16) certified the results of the Aug. 2 primary. The top two winners, regardless of party affiliation, advance to the Nov. 8 General Election.
The 8th Congressional District and the 5th, 41st and 45th Legislative District include Sammamish.

In the Sammamish area, two State Senate races are too close to project a winner for the November General Election: those in the 5th and 41st.
Sammamish Deputy Mayor Ramiro Valderrama, running as a Republican for Position 1 in the 45th LD House, received only 38% of the primary vote. He advances to November.
The Comment has projected winners in the November election in the chart below. The August primary typically serves as proxy for the November election.
Candidates for state and federal elections across Washington filed for office last week.
Sammamish is included in the 8th Congressional District, which now stretches across the Eastside, over the mountains and to Wenatchee–a safe Republican seat. But there were a number of challengers to incumbent Dave Reichert, a Republican.
Sammamish is also included in the 5th, 41st and 45th Legislative districts for the state Legislature.
The 5th includes the Klahanie area. With Sammamish’s annexation of Klahanie, we regain the 5th, which had been removed from Sammamish in the 2010 redistricting. The 41st encompasses the southern half of Sammamish, roughly from SE 8th. The 45th has the northern half.
The following details who has filed for what. Where there are only two candidates, or in two cases, unopposed candidates, these names will not appear on the August primary ballot–only the November general election. Where there are three or more candidates, this will be winnowed down to two in August for the November general.
Incumbents either won or were leading in Washington State elections Tuesday night (and in today’s update). Only one really has any relevance to Sammamish of any consequence: the State Senate race in the 45th Legislative District where incumbent Republican Andy Hill faced off with challenger Democrat Matt Isenhower. Hill is leading 53% to 47%. Although at this writing I haven’t seen a concession from Isenhower, I’m declaring Hill the winner. Historically final vote results don’t vary more than a percentage point from the election night.
Why is this one race of significance to Sammamish? Because Mayor Tom Vance, Deputy Mayor Kathy Huckabay and Councilmember Tom Odell endorsed Isenhower. Vance appeared in a mailer for Isenhower.
Councilmember Ramiro Valderrama endorsed Hill. I don’t know if the other councilmembers endorsed either candidate.
Here are Election Night results for the 41st and 45th Legislative Districts. The 41st covers the south half of Sammamish and the 45th the north half.
The 5th LD used to cover all but eight Sammamish precincts, but redistricting removed Sammamish from the 5th entirely. It continues to cover Klahanie, however, so I’m including these results.

Senator
Democrat Mark Mullet is leading with 53.8%; I’m calling this a win for Mullet. This means the Republicans almost certainly won’t take over the State Senate.
House Position 2:

Senator
Steve Litzow is leading with 53.5% of the vote. I’m calling this for Litzow.
House Seat #1
Marcia Maxwell has won with 58% of the vote. Judy Clibborn is unopposed for Position 2.
45th LD-House Representatives
Position 1
Roger Goodman has won reelection with 56% of the vote.
Position 2
Larry Springer has won reelection with 57% of the vote.
