Valderrama: denounces, has no “plan” to support Trump (or Hillary) (Update)

Ramiro Valderrama still ducks the question of whether he supports Donald Trump for president.

Update, Aug. 13: Valderrama emailed that in addition to denouncing Donald Trump’s comments, not does not support Trump, either. Valderrama’s original email is below the jump.

Ramiro Valderrama, candidate for the 45th District State House of Representatives and current deputy mayor of Sammamish, still won’t take a position on whether he supports, endorses or disowns Donald Trump.

He denounces Trump, the Republican nominee for President, for things Trump says. But that’s as far as he goes.

This is the position Valderrama took when Sammamish Comment first asked his position in May.

Candidates for 8th Congressional, Sammamish’s Legislative Districts file for November election

Candidates for state and federal elections across Washington filed for office last week.

Sammamish is included in the 8th Congressional District, which now stretches across the Eastside, over the mountains and to Wenatchee–a safe Republican seat. But there were a number of challengers to incumbent Dave Reichert, a Republican.

Sammamish is also included in the 5th, 41st and 45th Legislative districts for the state Legislature.

The 5th includes the Klahanie area. With Sammamish’s annexation of Klahanie, we regain the 5th, which had been removed from Sammamish in the 2010 redistricting. The 41st encompasses the southern half of Sammamish, roughly from SE 8th. The 45th has the northern half.

The following details who has filed for what. Where there are only two candidates, or in two cases, unopposed candidates, these names will not appear on the August primary ballot–only the November general election. Where there are three or more candidates, this will be winnowed down to two in August for the November general.

State Sen. Litzow slams Trump; Valderrama ducks and weaves

With the certainty that Donald Trump will be the Republic nominee for president, State Sen. Steve Litzow (R-Mercer Island) was quick to denounce the billionaire in no uncertain terms. Litzow, of the 41st District (the southern half of Sammamish), is targeted by Democrats in this election. The 41st trends Democrat. Litzow’s full comments are below the jump.

Former State Attorney General Rob McKenna, a Republican, said he’ll write in John Kasich’s name for president. But Sammamish Deputy Mayor Ramiro Valderrama, who is running for the State House as a Republican for the 45th District seat held by Democrat Roger Goodman, ducked and weaved when Sammamish Comment asked whether he supports Trump or not. The 45th trends Democratic. The north half of Sammamish is in the 45th.

Sheffer quits 45th District race, says GOP favored Valderrama

March 25, 2016: Charlie Sheffer, who last year began running for State Representative from the 45th Legislative District, has withdrawn from the race.

Sammamish City Council Deputy Mayor Ramiro Valderrama declared his candidacy yesterday. He will challenge incumbent Democrat Roger Goodman, who has held the seat since 2007.

“On February 15…I informed the House Republican Organizing Committee (HROC) that we would be withdrawing from our 2016 bid for the state House,” Sheffer wrote in an email to Sammamish Comment.

Valderrama declares for State Representative from the 45th

March 24, 2016: Ramiro Valderrama, deputy mayor of Sammamish, today announced his candidacy for State Representative from the 45th District. He’s seeking the seat held by Democrat Roger Goodman since 2007.

Valderrama will run as a Republican.

Charlie Sheffer of Redmond declared for this seat last year. At this writing, it’s unclear if Sheffer will stay in the race or withdraw in favor of Valderrama. Valderrama was reelected to his second term on the Sammamish City Council in November, effective Jan. 1. He received 83% of the vote against Parks Commissioner Hank Klein, who withdrew from the race too late to remove his name from the ballot.

Valderrama was selected by his peers to be Deputy Mayor for one year.

Valderrama intends to retain his seat on the City Council if elected to the State House, he told Sammamish Comment.
