Sammamish City Council unanimously selected Rick Rudometkin as its new City Manager and directed Interim City Manager Larry Patterson to enter contract negotiations.
Rudeometkin is currently County Manager of Eddy County, New Mexico. He is currently also a City Manager finalists at the Mill Creek and was previously County Manager finalists at Clark County.
The second of six candidates for Sammamish City Manager withdrew today from consideration.
Daniel Morgan
Daniel Morgan, a retired US Army colonel who is currently a business consultant, withdrew. He only said the position did not meet his career goals, Sammamish Comment was told.

Two days before a public reception at City Hall, City Manager finalist Regan Bolli withdrew his candidacy over comments made by a Sammamish city council member on Facebook with the last week.
An email to Interim City Manager Larry Patterson from the City’s recruiter reads:
Continue readingSammamish staff has never required an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) from a developer when reviewing a project, it was revealed October 7 at the only candidates’ forum held for the City Council election November 3.
Nor, as far as Sammamish Comment can determine, has staff ever issued a Mitigated Determination of Non-Significance (MDNS) for a project until the current Conner-Jarvis project, which is under citizen appeal; it’s only otherwise issued a Determination of Non-Significance (DNS) in 15 years of projects.
For those not versed in land use regulations and reviews, this alphabet soup of letters is confusing and, on its face, meaningless.
Here’s what these mean, why they are important to development in Sammamish, why the staff practices lie at the root of what citizens are seeing today as trees come down and controversies emerge over protection of wetlands, streams, lakes and Kokanee salmon and why the responsibility ultimately flows back to the City Council.
Opinion polls gave failing grades to six of seven City Council Members, the work of the City Council as a whole, the City Staff and the City Manager.
The polls, conducted on this blog, are, to be sure, unscientific. But an unscientific poll conducted to gauge support for the Community Center proved to come within 2.5 percentage points of the final result.

Except for Council Member Ramiro Valderrama, whose Favorable score was 78%, each council member’s favorables-unfavorables fell below any passing grade metric anywhere in any school.
Approve-disapprove polling for the City Council as a while, the City Staff and the City Manager also were failing scores.
And Don Gerend, who has been a council member since the formation of the City in 1999 and who has told people he intends to run for another term next year (after 14 years in office), should retire, respondents voted. Gerend, Mayor Tom Odell, Deputy Mayor John James and John Curley are up for election next year. Curley said when he was campaigning in 2009 he planned to serve only one term. If he follows through, this guarantees one open seat in the 2013 election.
