Nov. 11 Election Update: Jay Rodne projected to win reelection

State Rep. Jay Rodne (R-Snolqualmie) will win reelection, Sammamish Comment project.

Vote results posted by King County Elections today show Rodne increasing his lead over Democrat Jason Ritchie to 1,730 votes, twice the lead at the end of yesterday’s tally.

Rodne holds Position 1 in the 5th Legislative District, which includes the greater Klahanie area of Sammamish.

State Sen. Mark Mullet, a Democrat, of the 5th clings to his lead over challenger Chad Magendanz, a Republican. The lead shrank to 1,363 votes from 2,062 Thursday and 2,974 on election night. The lead has been shrinking at a smaller rate than Rodne’s has been gaining.

Election Update Nov. 10: Projected winner in 5th LD: Paul Graves; Rodne trending toward win; detailed figures

Updated results from King County Elections today are sufficient for Sammamish Comment to project that Paul Graves will win the open seat for the State House of Representatives in the 5th Legislative District, Position 2.

He will defeat Democrat Darcy Burner. Graves is a Republican, and his win keeps this seat in GOP hands. This change from too close to call is highlighted in green in the chart below.

Incumbent Republican Jay Rodne, seeking reelection in the 5th for Position 1, is trending toward a victory but his race remains too close to call today.

The 5th LD encompasses the greater Klahanie area in Sammamish.

Election Results: Nov. 9 update: 5th LD House races still too close to call

State Rep. Jay Rodne edged into the lead by 102 votes in updated election results today in his bid for reelection to the Washington House from the 5th Legislative District.

Rodne ended last night trailing his opponent, Democrat Jason Ritchie, by 295 votes. Rodne is a Republican. He drew heavy fire for a Facebook posting in which he made disparaging remarks about Muslims and called for every American to arm themselves.

In the race for the other House seat in the 5th LD, newcomer Paul Graves is leading by 1,047 votes over Darcy Burner. Graves, a Republican, ended Election night with a 258 vote lead over Burner, the Democrat. This is an open seat.

These remain the only two races that Sammamish Comment is following for Sammamish residents that are too close to call.

Sen. Hill loses second fight with cancer

Andy Hill.

State Sen. Andy Hill (R-45th) lost his second battle with cancer Monday. He was just 54.

Hill was a respected legislator regardless of party. He was given credit for co-writing recent state budgets during contentious times.

Elected in 2010, he was midway through his second term.

Party leaders will appoint someone to fill his vacancy for the remaining two years of his term.

Endorsements in the 5th Legislative District: Mullet, Ritchie, Graves

Sammamish is covered in part by three districts in the Washington State Legislature: the 5th, 41st and 45th. Endorsements today are the for 5th. The 41st will be listed tomorrow. The 45th will be on Monday. An endorsement in the Sound Transit 3 balloting will appear Tuesday.

5th Legislative District

The 5th includes the greater Klahanie area of Sammamish. The State Senate and two House seats are up for election this year.
