Recapping City Council candidate information for Nov. 7 election

With the Nov. 7 City Council election 11 days off and voting underway, it’s useful to repost links to Candidate Questionnaires, endorsements, recommendations and evaluations by various groups.

Sammamish Comment made endorsements and recommendations. The Comment also posted extensive candidate questionnaires in the August primary and November general elections.

For the first time in its history, the Issaquah/Sammamish Reporter made endorsements. Sammamish Friends, an environmental group, rated candidates. Links to these various posts and articles are below.

Murphy for King County Council District 3

Sammamish Comment recommends John Murphy for election to King County Council District 3, which includes Sammamish, Issaquah and adjacent unincorporated areas.

Lambert has been the District 3 Council Member for 16 years. Before that, she was a state legislator.

As a matter of preference, The Comment would rather see new blood come in after four terms. This has been true on the Sammamish City Council level and for other elective positions.

The Endorsements for Sammamish City Council Positions 1, 3 and 5 were easy decisions, even if in some cases a close call. The decision for Position 7 was a difficult, hard choice.

Sammamish Comment recommends Pam Stuart for election to City Council Position 7.

Note we write “Recommend” and not “Endorse.” “Recommend” falls well short of an “Endorsement,” for reasons that we will detail in this lengthy column.

Moran for Sammamish City Council Position 3

Sammamish Comment endorses Karen Moran for Sammamish City Council Position 3.

It was a very close call. Both candidates would serve the Council well with no shortage of intelligence, wit and a strong work ethic. Although Moran showed less energy in her doorbelling than Howe, both candidates landed about the same in funding and endorsements.
