Unfettered development vs controlling it is the only issue in this election

Sept. 20, 2019: It is now clear that the Sammamish City Council election this year has come down to one issue: unfettered development across the city vs controlling development so it doesn’t further overwhelm the roads and aggravate the congestion that already exists.

All other issues have taken a back seat.

If you support unfettered development, Karen McKnight, Rituja Indapure and Karen Howe are your choices for council.

If you want to control development and moderate traffic congestion, Christie Malchow, Kent Treen and Ken Gamblin are your choices.

Video of Sahalee, Timberline City Council Candidate Forum Released

The full length video of the City Council candidate forum that was held at the Sahalee Country Club on Sept. 5 is now available.

The event was hosted by Sahalee HOA and Timberline HOA and was moderated by David Steele, Vice President of Sahalee HOA. About 150 residents attended – 2/3 of which is estimated to be residents from other parts of the city.

2019 Election: Candidates Speak in First Public Forum

Four Sammamish City Council candidates participated in a first candidate forum out of a few planned this election season.

The forum, held at the Sammamish Library on Sunday, August 11, was organized and moderated by the South Asian American Together (SAAT-WA) organization. The forum also included Issaquah candidates.

The Sammamish Comment interviewed Kent Treen, a Sammamish City Council candidate running for Position 4, currently held by Council Member Ramiro Valderrama, who is not seeking re-election.

Treen is opposing Karen Howe, who ran for City Council in 2017 and lost to Deputy Mayor Karen Moran.

Indapure jumps to early, big lead in fund raising

Sammamish City Council Position 6 candidate Rituja Indapure jump to an early and big lead in fund raising, according to reports filed through Wednesday with the Washington Public Disclosure Commission.

Indapure raised nearly $18,300 from 87 contributions. Fifty-six percent of the contributors come from within Sammamish.

Karen McKnight, candidate for Position 2 opposing incumbent Christie Malchow, is a distance second fund raiser, with $3,641 listed in her PDC filing.

Malchow is fourth at $1,910. Kent Treen, running for Position 4, is third, with $2,100 in contributions.

The others haven’t reported raising any money yet.
