Chapanis ends candidacy for Council, cites health

Roger Chapanis

Roger Chapanis ended his candidacy for Sammamish City Council yesterday, citing ill health.

It’s too late to remove his name from the ballot, however.

Chapanis, 69, appears on the Aug. 1 primary ballot for Position 7, one of four seats up for election. John Robinson, Pamela Stuart and Melanie Curtright were his opponents.

In a statement, he said “he would no longer campaign for election, would no longer solicit or accept campaign contributions (monetary or in-kind), and would no longer make campaign expenditures—including from personal funds.  Additionally, he said that he would not accept the office – if elected to it.”

The top two candidates from the primary go on to the Nov. 8 general election. Positions 3 and 5 also have three candidates each, with those top two also advancing to November. Position 1 has two candidates; they do not appear on the primary ballot, going directly to the general election in November.
