With election season upon us, this serves as my announcement that I do not plan to seek reelection to my seat. π‘‡β„Žπ‘–π‘  β„Žπ‘Žπ‘  𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛 π‘Ž 𝑑𝑖𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑑 π‘‘π‘’π‘π‘–π‘ π‘–π‘œπ‘› π‘‘π‘œ π‘šπ‘Žπ‘˜π‘’. I have thoroughly enjoyed the tangible difference I’ve been able to make here. This last year has been very taxing, not just for me, but on my family too. I’ve poured myΒ β™₯️ and soul into this job. I love serving the residents of this city more than I can convey here. I currently sit as Vice Chair of theΒ Sound Cities AssociationΒ Public Issues Committee, I’m an alternate to the Board forΒ Puget Sound Regional Council, and I am serving on the Domestic Violence Task Force now. These have all been wonderful opportunities for me to learn & bring that knowledge back to Sammamish.

I wanted this job, and I took it to heart. What I campaigned on, I feel like I’ve done or fought really hard for. Still more to solidify next month with new permanent development regulations, but I feel very proud of the foundation I have been a part of that will pave the way for the futureΒ #Sammamish.

During the last 3 years, we have revised the way the city measures vehicle trips on our roadways and the impacts of development on existing facilities. We have strengthened environmental regulations, we increased and changed how we communicate with our residents, we changed development regulations, acquired acres upon acres of new park land, we continue to champion spawning grounds for the Kokanee salmon, we entered into contract negotiations for a new City Manager this week, and much, much more.

I am looking forward to more relaxing evenings with my amazing husband & daughters, and opportunities the future holds for me.

For all of you that along the way have called, emailed, stopped me in a grocery store, at a softball game, etc. to say β€œthank you”. I turn to you and say β€œπ“·π“Έ, 𝓽𝓱π“ͺ𝓷𝓴 𝔂𝓸𝓾”. Thank you for allowing me to serve our city and each of you. π‘»π’‰π’Šπ’” π’Šπ’” 𝒂𝒏𝒅 π’˜π’Šπ’π’ 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆, 𝒂 𝒍𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆.

  1. I think Christie did a very good job of listening to constituents and providing an opposing viewpoint on development against what was (at the time) a very pro-developer city council led by Tom Vance and Kathy Huckabay. Her opinions were in line with many community members that didn’t have a voice on the council outside of Ramiro Valderrama’s, who by the way dropped that constituency like a hot potato once it was politically expedient to do so. I am fairly certain Christie would have been re-elected should she have chosen to run.

At the same time, those qualities made her a poor consensus builder, which is critical as the head of any legislative body. Her term as mayor can’t be described as a success despite her success as an individual councilmember. The council is in disarray because you have a bunch of extremists at either end of the development question. There’s an obsession over the issue of growth at the cost of ignoring other important things like EFR cutting service at Station 81 or the budget/revenue crisis the city’s about to face.

I wish her the best. For the sake of balance, I hope her successor is someone that holds similar views, but with a better ability to compromise and build consensus. Pam Stuart is just as partisan and obstinate as Christie is and I would not like to see her influence increase as a result of this. I’d rather see a 4-3 split with some kind of compromise selection as mayor.

  2. Faint praise, well received, Concerned Citizen. I applaud Christie’s work and devotion to community. So, tell me what you feel is a consensus builder? You mean like Trump? Frankly, being a 40+ year resident and watching our lovely community give way to the interests of developers and the seemingly lack of interest on the politicians who approve or deny the approval to turn the Plateau into “Looney Town” and approve putting houses on lots that I do not think were ever meant to have so much construction. Money talks I guess, but whose money is going where while the neighborhood is getting so overcrowded that neighbors no longer have to go next door, when they can simply yell out the upstairs windows.

Listening to the news about the Seattle City Council and their RUDE inattention to a gentleman who took the time to address a group of elected officials with his thoughts. I don’t care if he was there to suggest an extension of the Ferry Routes to include the Capitol Hill area, he should have been allowed to speak.

I’m planning to move. The taxes alone up here in Plateaupia will alone force us out. And why? What are those taxes to be used for? Oh, maybe that transit system that I will never used and surely will us looking like Chicago in the not too distant future.

So, Christie, good job, well done. I fear you may have signed on to manage a complicated mix of diverse interests without proper thought to the community.

If you can share: they’re really not thinking of paving Pine Lake over for a new Park and Ride lot, are they?

Best wishes for a more relaxing way of life. You’ve done your best…. That’s enough
